Physical therapy attempts to address the illnesses, or injuries that limit a person's abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. We use an individual's history and physical examination to arrive at a diagnosis and establish a management plan and, when necessary, incorporate the results of laboratory and imaging studies like X-rays, CT-scan, or MRI findings. Although this is commonly performed as an out-patient the Physiotherapist is available in the Hospital environment to aid:
- Rehabilitation aiming for optimal level of independence.
- Respiratory care for patients in intensive care, following surgery or with chronic respiratory disease including emergency service at night and weekends.
- Use of techniques to reduce pain and improve the range of movement of joints.
- Involvement in safe, appropriate discharge planning.
